Blue Land

A Walk Through Nature and an Old Market Town

This tour in a nutshell

Let's head south from Munich to beautiful Lake Staffelsee and the Murnauer Moos (it is actually a moor, but literally called "moss" in Bavarian). Look forward to gorgeous views of the Ester, Ammergau, Karwendel and Wetterstein Mountains that usually appear in a magical blue light here. Locals therefore affectionately call the area "Blue Land". Our hike takes us to the lake, through a gorgeous alley, past a waterfall and to a beer garden inside the moor with excellent views. And onwards to Murnau.

From Murnau's amazing old town, it sometimes feels as if you can touch the mountains in the backdrop. The little town also boasts some great shopping. And for those who are interested in expressionism: The whole area around Murnau was home to "Der Blaue Reiter" (which literally translates as "The Blue Rider" – also adding to the region's nickname). Murnau itself boasts the famous "Münter House", a museum in the former home of Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky. So the town is well worth a visit in its own right.

This flat hike (you might even call it a walk) is great if you want to stretch your legs, immerse yourself in nature and explore a cute little town along the way. You want to check out the museum as well? Please let us know beforehand.
