Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Berchtesgaden on a day trip from Munich. Nestled in the Bavarian Alps, this stunning region offers a perfect blend of natural splendor, rich history and unforgettable experiences. With a private guide, a professional driver, and the comfort of a luxurious Mercedes V-Class, you'll enjoy a smooth and seamless experience in the mountains.

How to build your perfect trip

The drive to and from Berchtesgaden takes around 5 hours. On all tours in this area, we will have lunch at scenic locations with excellent food. Please allow an extra hour for this, i.e. a total of 6 hours for transportation and lunch. You can choose from the following modules, but please make sure that the total duration is 11 hours or less.

Eagle's Nest and its dark history
(add 2h15)

Perched high above the valley, Hitler's mountain retreat offers panoramic views that will leave you speechless. While we marvel at the vistas, we'll also take time to learn about the dark role that this majestic area played during the Third Reich. It was home to a full-blown second chancellery and Hitler spent around one third of his reign here.

Sound of Music panoramic drive

(add 1h)

Indulge in a scenic drive along some of the iconic sights where “The Sound of Music” was filmed. This private panoramic road provides amazing long-distance views and we'll take a short walk along the mountain pastures, where you can reenact the famous twirling scene with the Alps as your backdrop (or not, if you think it's too cheesy).

Best of Berchtesgaden Walking Tour

(add 1h30)

This mellow walking tour leads us to an elevated path above the town of Berchtesgaden and provides excellent vistas of the town, the towering mountains and Eagle's Nest. Take a stroll through the historic city centre with its abundance of churches, fresco painted houses and castle. Berchtesgaden in a nutshell! Short facts: 3 km, 100 m gain, 1h15 walking.

Königssee boat ride

(add 2h15)

Take a serene boat ride on the emerald waters of Königsee, considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Germany and featured in the Sound of Music. Surrounded by towering peaks and pristine forests, Königssee feels like a world apart, especially as the historic electric boat glides silently across the lake. We'll get off at the iconic church St. Bartholomä for a brief onshore excursion before heading back.

Königssee boat ride and hike
(add 4 or 5h, respectively)

Feeling a little more adventurous? Let's carry on to the far end of Lake Königssee by boat (it's a 2 hour return trip), where two hiking options await: an easier hike to Lake Obersee and a cosy local chalet (5.5 km, 120 m elevation gain, 2h walking) or a more challenging hike onward to Germany’s highest waterfall (8 km, 300 m elevation gain, 3h walking). The views of the surrounding mountains, pastures and lakes are simply jaw-dropping.

Easy panoramic hike
(add 1h30)

This scenic panoramic path in Ramsau offers an easy and picturesque hike with stunning views of the Bavarian Alps. It follows the historic brine pipeline route, meandering through lush forests with breathtaking vistas of iconic peaks and the serene valley below, making it a perfect outing for nature lovers and those seeking a relaxed yet visually rewarding experience. Short facts: 3 km, no elevation gain, 1h walking.

Mid-level summit hike with 360° vistas
(add 3h30)

This mid-level hike just outside Berchtesgaden takes us straight up the mountain. It leads through lush forests and alpine meadows to the summit, where you can enjoy breathtaking vistas, including a clear view of Watzmann and even Salzburg. At the top, a cozy mountain hut awaits, perfect for a relaxing break. Short facts: 7 km, 500 m elevation gain, 3h walking.

Berchtesgaden Salt Mine
(add 1h45)

This historic salt mine, in operation for over 500 years, offers an unforgettable underground adventure. Dressed in traditional miner’s overalls, you'll embark on a guided tour that takes you deep into the mountain.
